YouTube Takes a Step Towards Charging for Services

Apparently YouTube is not making enough money already because starting in April of 2013 the site may start offering paid subscription channels. The video sharing site has begun reaching out to a select group of channels to gauge interest in them becoming the first paid channels. It is thought that subscriptions could cost between $1-$5 a month and the channels would still be allowed to show advertisements. So you wouldn’t even be able to escape that annoyance by coughing up a fee.
The site has been teasing this change for a while and it is said to be an experiment for now. Essentially what it would mean is that popular channels can charge subscription fees which YouTube would get a cut of. They would also still get a cut of the ad revenue which is already lucrative. It is just a case of greed and users are likely to resist such a change strongly.
